We are thrilled to provide our patients with access to this transformative treatment, and we are currently the only federally qualified health center in Connecticut to do so.

- Michael Twist, DO, Psychiatric Medical Director

Updated July 25, 2023: Wheeler patients who opt for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for depression will embark on a journey guided by a skilled, caring team, including two certified TMS physicians. A state-of-the-art suite, comfortable treatment chair, inspiring wall messages, and more, are part of a tranquil treatment setting.

TMS is a new, non-invasive treatment from NeuroStar® that’s offered through Wheeler’s New Britain community health center at 40 Hart Street. This therapy uses magnetic fields to activate regions in the brain which have decreased activity in patients with depression.

“TMS is a unique, successful therapy for patients with depression, with strong potential and growing evidence of effective treatment of anxiety,” said Dr. Michael Twist, Wheeler psychiatric medical director. “We are thrilled to provide our patients with access to this transformative treatment, and we are currently the only federally qualified health center in Connecticut to do so.”

Treatments last approximately 20 minutes, and following each session, patients may resume regular activity. A course of treatment can be prescribed for up to seven weeks, based upon how quickly patients’ symptoms resolve and ongoing discussion with their provider.
