September 15-October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Throughout the month we will also spotlight our Hispanic staff through our Visibility Campaign. Today’s spotlight goes to Betzy Padilla.

Betzy has been with Wheeler for five years and is currently an Administrative Assistant II for EMPS in Hartford, Foster Care based out of Plainville, and for the RTFT and TSEA teams. She is also the admin for ADEP program based out of Plainville. She started in Wheeler 2018 as a Customer Service Representative and in less than a year was promoted to a Senior Customer Service Representative for the front desk in our New Britain locations. She is very adaptable to change and curious to learn different positions.

Prior to Wheeler, Betzy was a banquet captain / supervisor for 11 years and would do it all over again. She loves working around people. She exceeded her customer's expectation and made sure they were happy in every way possible. In her eyes a customer and/or client is always right.

Fun fact about Betzy: she enjoys helping others all the time, loves family gatherings, and being surrounded by anyone with a positive mindset.

The national theme for Hispanic Heritage Month is Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America. What does that mean to you? Prosperity: For Latinos prosperity is a major thing. Most of us have come here with nothing, from nothing, and now look at some of us. A lot of Latinos have started businesses, have bought homes and other necessary things that many thought we weren’t able to. And most of us have invested in something or invested somewhere so that in the future, our children, and our families have something to rely on.

Power: To me this is an awesome achievement. Power has become increasingly concentrated in our hands from our ancestors. We all have showed the world and many others that we can achieve and progress in life, and if we do it together it becomes better. Together we are gaining control, authority, and influencing others.

Progress: This is inherent to Latinos because what truly unifies us is our desire to move forward in life for our families. Advancing towards a positive direction into American progress. Unity above it all.

Thank you for sharing, Betzy!
