September 15-October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, an opportunity for us to continue our Visibility Campaign series and revisit our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This month we will increase visibility of our Hispanic staff. Today's spotlight goes to Teo Anderson Diaz, LCSW, LADC.

Teo Anderson Diaz is the vice president of health and wellness center outpatient services at Wheeler. He is a dually licensed clinical social worker and alcohol & drug counselor in Connecticut. He is also licensed to practice in Massachusetts as a licensed independent clinical social worker. His areas of clinical focus include trauma-informed care, depression, anxiety, addiction, integrated primary care, and behavioral health services. For the past 40 years, he has worked as a community organizer, human rights activist, and behavioral health clinician and leader primarily within the Latinx communities of Chicago, Boston, and Hartford.

What steps should organizations such as Wheeler take to serve the Hispanic/Latino communities better?

  1. Attend more community events sponsored by Latino/x community organizations.
  2. Initiate a year-long marketing campaign throughout the various Hispanic/x outlets of the services offered at Wheeler.
  3. Conduct a needs assessment of the current number of Latino/x served by Wheeler.
  4. Develop a recruitment strategy to attract qualified Latino/x, multilingual staff across the entire organization.

Thank you, Teo, for sharing today!
