Therapeutic Foster Care
On any given day in Connecticut, there are nearly 4,000 children in foster care and others who need safe, loving foster homes. Wheeler Clinic’s Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) program, funded by the Department of Children and Families, provides 24-hour support to families and children, generally ranging in age from 6 to 17, of all races, religions and cultures. The lives of these children have been disrupted for reasons including neglect, abuse and abandonment.
The program provides a higher level of care and resources for these children, including therapeutic supports to meet their needs and focus on their unique strengths to help them heal from trauma.
Wheeler Clinic’s TFC program needs foster parents to open their homes, and help children feel safe by understanding their unique strengths and personalities, and facilitating their recovery from trauma. Our team of experts coordinates services for children of all age groups and backgrounds with the goal of providing a nurturing home and a structured environment for children. Families are part of a team of professionals and are supported throughout the placement process and beyond. They are provided with financial support for the child(ren) in their care, and training to ensure the family will be well equipped to meet the needs of the child(ren).
