Visibility Campaign: Deneda Thompson

Throughout Black History Month, we are continuing our Visibility Campaign series where we look to increase visibility of our Black staff, as well as our staff who have a passion for support and advocacy. Today's spotlight goes to Deneda Thompson, IT Manager and Support Services Supervisor.

Deneda, a New Haven native, graduated in 2006 from Gateway Community College with an associate degree in Business Office Technology. After working in a computer repair center, she went back to school and finished the Porter & Chester Institute's Computer Networking program in 2012. For the next six years, Deneda built her customer base by word-of-mouth while working as a full-time IT administrator before joining Wheeler Health on her birthday in 2018.

“It is an honor to work with staff who want to see change in how the Black community is treated and perceived and it touches me to see people of all races on the front line protesting for injustices. Here are three ways to help and support: educate yourself on how systematic racism has impacted the Black community, raise your children to value and respect all people of all races, religions, and cultural backgrounds, and take accountability for any misconceptions you developed from the media.”

Here is an article with great insight on how to help the Black community right now!

Thank you, Deneda, for sharing your story!
