Ribbon-cutting Marks Opening of Wheeler’s Expanded Community Health Center and On-site Genoa Healthcare Pharmacy at 40 Hart Street, New Britain

Services for the Whole Family Now Offered

Elected officials, community leaders, donors, funders, and friends gathered on July 6 for a ribbon-cutting and reception to celebrate the opening of Wheeler’s new, expanded community health center at 40 Hart Street, New Britain. The event also marked the launch of a new on-site Genoa Healthcare pharmacy, the fourth inside a Wheeler community health center and the 16th Genoa location in Connecticut. 

Wheeler’s New Britain community health center, as well as its community justice, and intervention services, moved to Hart Street on June 21, 2021, from 75 North Mountain Road.

“We are delighted to build on our long history of serving individuals and families in this city since 1991 by offering a broadened continuum of accessible, high-quality integrated care services in one convenient place,” said Sabrina Trocchi, PhD, MPA, Wheeler president and chief executive officer. “Our staff, trustees, donors, and community partners have worked tirelessly to make sure that Hart Street is the most dignified, welcoming, and caring environment for everyone we serve in the New Britain community.” 

Foursome-smaller.jpgWheeler and Genoa leaders were joined by US Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-5); Erin Stewart, Mayor of the City of New Britain; State Representative Robert “Bobby” Sanchez (D-25), and Connecticut Department of Children and Families Commissioner Vannessa Dorantes, LMSW, for the ribbon-cutting and tours of the facility.

This means our consumers are more likely to stay on their medication plans and stay healthier.”

Services offered at the expanded community health center include:

PRIMARY CARE FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN

  • Pediatric primary care and primary care for adults
  • Women’s health care
  • Chronic disease management for asthma, diabetes, hypertension/heart health,   HIV, hepatitis, and more
  • Medication-assisted treatment for alcohol or opiate addiction, including extended-release naltrexone (Vivitrol®) and buprenorphine (Suboxone®) for alcohol, heroin and opioid addiction, tobacco cessation services and recovery supports
  • Care management for adults with complex health care needs and behavioral health concerns
  • On-site pharmacy and laboratory services
  • Linkages to specialty and ancillary services like dental care 
  • Prevention, health promotion, and wellness services

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND OUTPATIENT SERVICES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN Tour-b.jpg
•    Individual, family, and group outpatient therapies for all ages
•    Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) 
•    Psychiatric services, including psychiatric evaluations and medication management

The Family Health & Wellness Center in New Britain is one of five Wheeler community health centers. Other facilities are located in Bristol, Hartford, Plainville, and Waterbury. As a federally qualified health center, Wheeler is part of a network of community health centers nationwide that provide affordable, accessible health care for more than 29 million Americans.

Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial health insurance welcome. No patient will be denied health care services due to an individual’s inability to pay for services.
