The Training Program in Child Development offers accessible and affordable workshops to childcare providers statewide. The training consists of topic areas called Core Areas of Knowledge that are important to know if you are working and caring for children in any setting. The complete program is 180 hours of entry-level, non-credit workshop training taken through four separate modules. Subjects include:
- Child growth and development
- Assessing children's learning
- Providing a safe and healthy environment
- Managing an effective childcare program
- Establishing productive relationships with families
- Professional Development
To date over 5,500 child care providers have participated. Ten training sites throughout the state offer workshops in six modules at community colleges, community agencies, and at Hartford College for Women/University of Hartford.
Training is funded by the Connecticut Department of Social Services and the Child Health and Development Institute, and approved by Connecticut Charts-A-Course and administered by Wheeler Clinic. Some workshops and other training opportunities are listed on www.greatkids.org.
