Wheeler Clinic’s Family Support Center (FSC)
is an innovative intervention program for Family With Service Needs (FWSN)
juveniles. FWSN is a judicial definition for any young person who is
truant, runaway or otherwise out of his or her parent’s control.
The program provides comprehensive assessment, intervention, educational
advocacy, parent support, crisis response, referral, case management
and psycho-educational groups in a supportive environment. The FSC believes
change can be achieved through the use of positive reinforcement, effective
interventions, motivational enhancement and involvement of the family
and community. Each client receives an individually tailored service
plan which integrates all aspects of his or her life.
Evidence-based interventions, which include family mediation and educational
advocacy, help clients:
• develop healthy social skills
• reduce anger and aggression
• improve educational functioning
• learn problem solving and coping skills
• avoid alcohol and drugs
• improve relationships with family
members
